A vacancy on the town council has unexpectedly occurred after the resignation of a councillor.

Whitchurch Town Council has confirmed that Councillor Peter Tew has resigned his position leaving a vacancy.

Cllr Tew, a lifelong resident of Whitchurch, said he had stood for the council in 2022 after his disillusionment with its performance.

When he was elected to the council, he said: "I have lived in Whitchurch all my life.

"I have been involved in local football clubs, societies and fundraising events. Over the years it has been disillusionment.

"The council has got everything going forward - I would like to be part of it.

"Anything I can do to help the town and the community I would like to be part of."
