WHICHURCH residents have been praised for playing their part in the commemorations for the town’s fallen war dead and veterans on Remembrance Sunday.
Members of the public joined with mayor Councillor Andy Hall for the service at the town’s War Memorial in Station Road, followed by a parade to St Alkmund’s Church, in Church Street, for a Service of Remembrance.
Following the Church Service of Remembrance, town organisations paraded down the High Street into the Bullring where they were dismissed by the Parade Commander.

A spokesman for the event added: “The whole Parade involved both serving members of the armed forces and veterans from all services, plus youth organisations in an act of Remembrance.
“The event was overseen by the St Alkmund’s Vicar, Chris Precious, and the Curate, Pippa White, plus the town’s Royal British Legion team of Rupert Hutchison-Smith and Parade Commander of Lee Broder.”
A spokesman for Whitchurch Town Council celebrated the efforts of all those who played their part in ensuring the town paid its respects appropriately.
They said: “A great turnout this morning for the Remembrance Sunday wreath-laying plus the two-minute silence and parade at the War Memorial.
“The Service of Remembrance took place at St Alkmund's, followed by the Parade Dismissal on the High Street/Bullring and a short Service of Remembrance at the Commonwealth War Graves at Whitchurch Cemetery.
“Thank you to everyone who has paid their respects to those who have served and give thanks to those who currently serve, and all those who help to ensure the event happens safely and on time.”
Meanwhile, in Wem, members of the public that attended the service in the High Street were treated to a fly-past from Sleap Airfield of First World War bi-planes and an Avro Anson twin engine aircraft.
Members of Wem Town Council, including mayor Cllr David Parry, joined local groups and school pupils from Thomas Adams School, in Lowe Hill Road, to lay wreaths in dedication to the fallen.
