Whitchurch enjoyed a spectacular production of Annie recently, thanks to a generous donation.

The Whitchurch Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society was able to secure the venue for their shows with the help of a £1,000 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The funds helped the theatre group cover the cost of booking Sir John Talbot’s School for their performances from October 30 to November 2.

The society, which primarily produces musical stage shows and pantomimes, recently celebrated its centenary with a showing of The Wind in the Willows.

Councillor Rose Hall, deputy mayor of Whitchurch and member of the society, said: "We are so grateful to receive this donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes as it makes all the difference to our group.

"Donations like these mean we can put more budget into costumes and set design, meaning a better experience for the audience.

"We hope everyone enjoyed our performance of Anie and a huge thank you to everyone that has supported us."

The story of Annie, set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, follows the titular character as she endures a hard life in an orphanage, but her life looks likely to drastically improve as she is invited to spend Christmas with local billionaire, Oliver Warbucks.

Helen Lewis, managing director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: "We are thrilled to have supported Whitchurch Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society for its production of Annie.

"Theatre is an underrated gem in local communities and we’re delighted to have been able to offer our support."

Adrian Evans, managing director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, added: "We are always striving to support the local communities in which we build and, with Whitchurch Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society being such a historic part of the town, it was only right that we offered our support.

"We hope everyone that attended the performance of Annie had a brilliant time."

The society is always welcoming new members and volunteers.

Whether it’s performing, costumes, directing, producing, stage management, set design and more, there may be a role available in the group.

The society is based close to Barratt Homes’ Talbot Place and David Wilson Homes’ Clockmakers developments in Whitchurch.
