A WEM Cricket Club stalwart has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his services to disability sport in the town.
Graham Furber received the award in the New Year Honours List for his services to cricket, disability sport and to the local community.
Graham has helped with coaching in the town for a long time and the club said it is proud of him.
A spokesperson for the club said: "Wem Cricket Club are very proud to hear the news that club stalwart Graham Furber has been awarded a BEM in the New Years honours for services to cricket, disability sport and to the local community.
"Whilst now living in Bomere, Graham was born and raised in Wem, attending local schools, youth club and represented the towns football and cricket clubs and has served the cricket club for over 50 years, holding various positions within the club.
"Graham continues to coach the clubs next crop of youngsters and plays a major part in developing disabled cricket both in Shropshire and nationally.
"All at the club are very proud of him and his award is a fitting reward for all his hard work and commitment to our wonderful sport.
"Well done Graham."
