Whitchurch Alport’s Midlands Premier League season ended with another disappointing 3-1 defeat at Romulus.
The only bright spot from the afternoon was Alex Hughes’ 32nd goal of the campaign making him the league’s top scorer.
However the day belonged to the home side with two goals from Jack Whelan and a Dean Morris strike sealing the spoils.
The defeat brought the curtain down on a testing debut season in the Midlands League after being forced to switch at the start of the season due to a reorganisation of non league football.
Inside the walls of Yockings Park a realistic target was set for a top six finish but the Reds’ poor end to the season saw Alport finish in mid-table.
However Luke Goddard’s side will always be remembered for creating an unforgettable experience and coming from just two wins away from a Wembley cup final in the FA Vase.
Alport sign off for the season with the final of the TJ Vickers Cup against Haughmond on Tuesday May 3rd at AFC Telford United with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Meanwhile Prees United crashed to a 4-1 defeat at home to Shrewsbury Juniots in the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier League with player-manager Matty Owen netting a consolation goal.
