A GROUP of young footballers from Whitchurch are celebrating after they won the double.
Whitchurch Alport Under-12s girls team won the league and the cup final on Saturday, May 13 after competing against Albrighton in Market Drayton following a penalty shootout.
Alport were leading 1-0 with two minutes to go before full-time, but Albrighton were awarded a penalty which led to the game going straight to penalties.

Manager Nicola Field praised you young footballers and her assistant Philip Hulse for their successful season.
She said: "The final was fantastic and very nerve-racking. We were 1-0 up with two mins to go and referee pulled up for handball in the area.
"Albrighton went on to score the penalty. There was no extra time and we went straight to penalties! I couldn’t watch.
"We scored all of ours and they missed two which meant Alport U12s went on to win on penalties which meant we won the double, the league and the management cup.
"Words can’t describe how proud I am of this team. They worked their socks off till the final whistle.
"I’ve seen these girls grow into a fantastic group of young ladies and to see the friendships formed is incredible.
"Another shout out to Phil on all your help and support this season.

"I was nervous so I don’t know how the girls felt. But they absolutely smashed it.
"We go into this weekend playing our final game of the season against another Albrighton team.
"A big thank you to Luke Goddard for marking a pitch out on the main pitch in Yockings Park so the girls can play their final game of the season there."
