PLANS TO build 69 new homes in Whitchurch have been withdrawn by the developer.

The applicant, Gleeson Homes And Central And Country (Alport Road) Ltd wanted to build the new dwellings on land east of Prince William Close, but withdrew the application on Friday, June 23.

A previous application for 73 homes had been made in March last year but was withdrawn a few months later on June 10, 2022.

The application withdrawal by the developer was confirmed by Shropshire Council.

Shropshire Council planning and development services manager, Tabitha Lythe said: "We acknowledge your communication advising that the above application is being withdrawn.

"No determination will now be made in respect of this application."

The application was opposed by Whitchurch Town Council, who had also opposed the one made in March 2022 due to traffic levels and the welfare and safety of residents in nearby housing.

The town council said: "The current application was further discussed at a meeting of Whitchurch Town Council on December, 15 2022, where it was decided to further object to the application on the grounds already stated, with the additional points.

"Should the application be approved, there will be difficulties for existing residents in the vicinity of the development resulting from or related to access to the site during any building phases or access when any future residents would be moving into the development.

"There will also be the issue of future access for emergency services vehicles."

Whitchurch resident Darren Greaves also voiced his objection.

He said: "I can't believe you are again pushing for planning permission, for the development of land at Prince William Close after it has already been rejected.

"I have lived in Gambrell Avenue for 17 years, lost count of the amount of car wing mirrors lying on Talbot Street when driving to and from my home address, struggling even to get to Gambrell Avenue accessed from Egerton road when the football is on at Alport.

"When the school run is on, it's near gridlock times with cars trying to access Talbot Street from Salisbury Road Junior School.

"And as for getting heavy goods vehicles up Talbot Street maybe you should go and have a chat to Travis Perkins at the top of Talbot Street for a little advice.

"When the Gambrell Avenue development was built, it was understood that any further development of the area would require a link road from the Nantwich side of the Whitchurch bypass to get planning permission due to the access problems of this side of the town."
