Chester Road Bowling Club have unveiled a new shelter dedicated to honorary member who has retired after more than 30 years of volunteering.
The shelter, located on the club's larger green, now bears a plaque in honour of 86-year-old John Mitchell, who has been looking after the club's two greens for years.
Mr Mitchell has inserted new drainage, maintained all of the equipment, and done the pre-match mowing, keeping the grounds in good condition.
Throughout his time with the club Mr Mitchell has served on the committee and e captained the team for many years.
The club treasurer, Richard Sheasby, Mr Mitchell's efforts have saved the club 'many thousands of pounds over the years'.
The plaque was revealed at the club’s Sunshine Cup Bowls and Lunch on Sunday, May 26
The retired honorary member and his partner, Linda Gollins, made it to the competition's final, which was won by Paul Gollins and Christine Collen.
Chester Road Bowling Club openly accepts new members of all ages, even those who have never tried bowling before.
The club based in Whitchurch, offers training and the necessary equipment for beginners.
The club has 19 teams across 4 leagues.
